Dusan Vlahovic: Is he the ultimate centre-forward? Why do so many clubs want him?

When it comes to the next generation of young players, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland lead the way. They have already been playing consistently at a world class level way beyond their years.

With both players set to be on the move in the summer, a lot of suitors are set to miss out on Football’s top commodities. However, there is another promising centre-forward that on current form, should be considered in a similar bracket to the other two.

Dusan Vlahovic is a name that has come up in discussions over the past six months, with his performances for Italian club Fiorentina catching many an eye. The 21-year-old’s future has made a lot of noise during this transfer window.

Who is Dusan Vlahovic?

The Serbian striker joined the Italian club in 2018 from Serbian side Partizan. Although many only began to take notice of his performances last season after he bagged 21 goals in Serie A.

He ended the season as the league’s fourth highest scorer behind Luis Muriel, Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo. It was a remarkable achievement for a player of his age, considering Fiorentina finished the season in thirteenth position, just seven points off relegation.

Sensational goal machine?

Vlahovic has continued his fine goalscoring form this season, with 17 goals in 21 appearances. He is on course to obliterate his goal tally from last season, and is level with Lazio’s Ciro Immobile in the race for the Serie A golden boot.

Vlahovic’s game is a lot more than being a poacher. The Serbian can score with one touch finishes inside the box, as well as from range. His 6ft 1″ frame also allows him to use his physicality in the air, along with his blistering pace.

His composure over dead-ball situations at such a tender age is a sign of a player destined for the top. These traits show just how dynamic of a centre forward Vlahovic can be.

Where will he go?

Arsenal and Manchester City have been amongst the clubs said to be linked with a move for the Serbian this transfer window. Mikel Arteta has been on the lookout for a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the striker set to leave.

Pep Guardiola is in the market for a front-man, with Manchester City still yet to replace club legend Sergio Aguero, who left in the summer. Ferran Torres departed for Barcelona earlier this month to leave City light in the forward areas.

Whatever club Vlahovic departs to, they would be getting the perfect player for the present and the future.
