Harry Kane Q & A

Harry Kane was interviewed after he scored one and set up another for Heung Min Son in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday to move back to the top of the Premier League.

Q. Good to have the fans back?

A. Incredible, incredible. The atmosphere was great today and we’ve been looking forward to getting them back in the stadium. You could still hear them long after the end, everyone’s excited. When you’re winning games, you go home happy. That was the most important thing today.

Q. 31 goals between you and Son. What’s your secret?

A. We’re just feeling good. Understanding each other’s game well. The way we’re setting up is suiting us. Today it was an easy pass and he had a fantastic finish. We’ve got a good understanding but it’s the same with everyone on the pitch. The way everyone works and moves allows us to create that space. So we’ve got to keep it going.

Q You’ve now scored a record 11 North London derby goals. Ever felt better?

A. I’d probably say it’s the best form I’ve been in in my life, the best start to the season for sure. But there’s still a long way to go. I’ve had seasons when we’ve been top for a while but it’s a long hard race to be there at the end. We haven’t quite done it over the last few years but we’re just taking each game as it comes. Results like we got on Sunday and obviously against Man City a couple of weeks ago will only help us, so we’ve just got to keep it going.

Q. Could be this be Tottenham’s season?

A. There’s still a long way to go, we’re not getting carried away. Of course, we have to believe in ourselves and our capabilities but we also know it can turn around pretty quickly if you have a few bad results. We’ve just got to keep trying to win games. There’s two tough away games coming up – at Crystal Palace and Liverpool. We’ve just got to keep trying to do what we’re doing and fight for it.

Q. Does everything seem perfect?

A. Yes, a great night, great to have supporters back, it made a real difference. Just to see their faces, hear their voices in the ground was fantastic. We obviously wanted to send them home happy and we did that.

Q. The team are playing with little possession but fast breaks?

A. We play well on the counter-attack, we’ve got fast players. We’ve been clinical when we’ve got our chances. I think in the second half we wanted to play better on the ball but sometimes in games and situations you have to adapt and Arsenal pressed well. They won the ball back in our half and we couldn’t quite get out. But we defended well. I can’t remember them creating too many chances. Butt hat’s what you’ve got to do. Sometimes you just have to defend and sit deep and soak up the pressure.

Q. Do you feel the pressure of being top?

A. There’s pressure in every game you play. Whether you’re playing the top six in a massive game or you’re playing one of the lower teams fighting relegation and you’re expected to win. In the Premier League now every game is a tough game. We’ve played City, Chelsea, Arsenal and done well but we’ve got Palace away, Liverpool away. Leicester, Leeds, Wolves…every game is a tough game, so we can’t get too carried away.
