Several young Premier League stars look set for breakout seasons based on their early form. Here are 11 we think could announce themselves this campaign…
Yankuba Minteh
The 20-year-old moved for big money from Newcastle to Brighton this summer and has started each of the Seagulls’ three Premier League games so far. He set up Kaoru Mitoma’s goal in the opening day win over Everton and looks a real talent out wide. Definitely one to watch this season.
Morgan Rogers
The Aston Villa man has shown glimpses of why Unai Emery wanted to sign him so much last January despite being relatively unproven during his career. He is quickly growing into one of Villa’s best players and Emery has shown enormous faith in him, playing him for 90 minutes in each of the first three league games and his performance against Arsenal in particular was a standout, with his directness, speed and dribbling ability causing them huge problems.
Abdul Fatawu
Fatawu lit up the Championship last season as Leicester won promotion back to the Premier League, scoring six goals and assisting 13 times, and following his permanent move to the club this summer, looks well placed to build on that and announce himself in the top flight. He has already caused problems for teams, most of all Tottenham where he set up Jamie Vardy’s equaliser. His pace out wide will be crucial for Leicester if they are to stay up.
Rico Lewis
The Manchester City youngster is not a name that is new to Premier League fans having been in and out of the team under Pep Guardiola in the last couple of seasons. He has already shown he has the quality to play in the Premier League but has played the full 90 minutes in each of City’s first three league games and looks set for a starring role this season even when Kyle Walker does get back fit. Guardiola’s patience with youngsters has been rewarded in the past with Phil Foden and could be again with Lewis.
Antoine Semenyo
Semenyo arrived at Bournemouth in the January of 2023 and has been an important player for the club since then. But following the departure of talisman Dominic Solanke this summer, Semenyo looks ready to step into a bigger role and take more responsibility. He has already scored twice in his first three games this season and his overall performance level has been outstanding. Still only 24, there is much more to come from the forward.
Omari Hutchinson
The wide man has joined Ipswich permanently following a successful loan spell last season in which he helped to get the club promoted. The Tractor Boys have had a tough start with their opening two games against Liverpool and Man City but the former Arsenal and Chelsea youngster has already shown the problems he is capable of causing opposition teams. Once he is settled and the fixtures get a bit easier, Hutchinson should kick on and impress.
Savinho
Savinho looks to be the next star to establish himself at Manchester City. He moved to the club this summer from another City Football Group owned club Troyes after a stunning loan spell at Girona last season as they finished third in La Liga. The 20-year-old has settled in seamlessly under Guardiola and looks set to play a big part in his team on either of the flanks, having already showcased his trickery and attacking quality.
Tino Livramento
The Newcastle full-back has already proven he is a quality player but looks well placed to take his game to the next level after being preferred to Kieran Trippier at right-back in the first three games of the season. He has been rewarded with a call up to the England squad and his ability going forward means he can contribute in attack as well as defence.
Joao Pedro
The Brighton forward enjoyed a solid first season in the Premier League after his move from Watford, scoring nine Premier League goals. But he already has two in three games this season and under new boss Fabian Hurzeler looks set to improve on that and become a top striker.
Jhon Duran
The form of Ollie Watkins means Duran did not play as much as he would have hoped last season and he was heavily linked with a move away in the summer. But in limited game time the striker is showing he can have a big impact, scoring twice off the bench in his first three games and it is surely only a matter of time before he gets more opportunity.
Noni Madueke
Madueke has shown what he can do in spells at Chelsea but after netting a fantastic hat-trick against Wolves and striking up a strong partnership with last season’s breakout star Cole Palmer, this could be the season the 22-year-old shows the world what he is capable of on a more consistent basis.
