Our History

Hayters is the UK’s leading independent sports reporting agency, founded in 1955 by legendary sports journalist Reg Hayter.

It evolved to serve both traditional print and modern broadcast media, though it was originally known for Reg’s slogan ‘Hayter’s the name, always the same’, with its print coverage and location based near the famous Fleet Street.

Synonymous with quality journalism, across all sports, it has also been a training ground for many famous reporters with well over 100 men and women graduating to national newspapers as correspondents, editors and in broadcasting roles as commentators, interviewers and executives.

Now run by esteemed journalists Nick Callow and Gerry Cox, it has grown into a multi-media sports reporting agency.

It has a global range of editorial and video clients, including all the national newspapers and a host of international broadcasting companies. In tandem, it has grown an organic social media following of 2 million-plus, including a hugely significant and respected YouTube channel.

The Hayters TV YouTube channel and social media platforms marked the company’s 70th anniversary in 2025 by amassing more than half a billion total video views, keeping millions up to date with the biggest football news.

Hayters now also provides football news and analysis directly to the public via its website Hayters.com, drawing on its historic pedigree for quality journalism and delivering inside access to its audience directly from the press box.
