Ruben Amorim says Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui is “near” to returning from injury.

The Moroccan defender has missed the start of the season because of a thigh problem.

But ahead of United’s Carabao Cup clash with League Two side Grimsby Town, Amorim says Mazraoui could return this week.

He said: “Maybe he’s going to return next week, we will see, but he’s near, we are just finishing some drills with him to make sure that he’s not going to have another problem.”

Amorim also did not rule out striker Rasmus Hojlund, who could depart the club before the transfer window shuts, playing against Grimsby having been left out of the squad in the last two games.

“All the players are available, then we make the choice to try to get the best starting eleven to win every game,” Amorim said.
