Arne Slot suggested Darwin Nunez was feeling especially disappointed after missing a sitter in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.

Liverpool took the lead in the first half through another Mo Salah goal but found themselves trailing at the break following goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins.

Trent Alexander-Arnold levelled for the Reds via a deflection and Nunez then missed a massive chance to make it 3-2, skying the ball over the bar with the goal gaping after Dominik Szoboszlai had squared it to him.

“If you look at the chances we had in the second half to go in front, you can understand that there is one player in the dressing who feels quite down,” Slot told TNT Sports. “I think you know who it is.”

It was the second draw for Liverpool in the past three league games, having also drawn 2-2 with Merseyside rivals Everton last week.

The Reds have now played a game more than Arsenal, sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League present.

Slot also admitted he was not happy with the result, telling the BBC: “We came out in the second half and scored 2-2 and had some good chances to make it 3-2 and then we could even have lost it. It was a great game but I am not happy with the result.

“I felt we defended well but I can’t come up with a lot of Villa chances. You need to have a neutral set-piece balance or positive and we conceded one and did not score one. We scored two good goals and created enough chances to get the winner.

“Every team has to play every team twice and this week is Villa away and City away but again we did not lose. We desired more and that is the only thing we can blame ourselves for a few times now we did not get what we deserved. We must not make a habit of that.”
