Arsenal have announced the signing of Illan Meslier after the expiry of his contract at Leeds United on a two-year contract with the opportunity for a further year.

After spending seven seasons at Leeds United, playing 215 times and keeping 70 clean sheets, he now begins a new chapter at the Premier League Champions.

The Frenchman joins David Raya, Kepa and Tommy Setford as a new Arsenal goalkeeper. Raya has won the Premier League golden glove three seasons in a row now, so is unlikely to lose his spot, but Meslier comes in as an experienced backup to a top defence.

“I’m extremely happy,” he said. “It’s a great day for me because I have just joined the champions. For me, Arsenal are the biggest club in England.

“I’m very happy and very proud to join Arsenal. I cannot wait to show the love that I’ve got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team, because this is a club that needs to lift trophies again and again.”
