Arsenal are reportedly plotting a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino after helping Spain to Euro 2024 glory.

The Telegraph have said the Gunners’ interest in the 28-year-old pre-dates the tournament, where Merino featured in all seven matches as well scoring the quarter-final winner against hosts Germany.

Former Newcastle midfielder Merino only has one year left on his contract and Sociedad would demand around £20m.

Meanwhile north London rivals Tottenham have turned down a €10m bid from Italian giants AC Milan for defender Emerson Royal, with BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella saying Spurs are wanting at least double that to consider any deal for the Brazilian.

Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad want to sign Aston Villa winger Moussa Diaby this summer, according to Sky in Germany.

Diaby is said to be keen on the move with the Saudi club hoping to strike a deal for €55m (£46.2m).

Elsewhere, Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth is reporting that Fulham are interested in Manchester United’s Scott McTominay. The Scotland international was a top target for the west Londoners to replace Palhinha last season.

McTominay is entering the final year of his Red Devils contract, with Fulham also interested in Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Fluminense’s Andre.

Everton are preparing a move for Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto after failing to sign the Italian 20-year-old last summer.

Any move would only be possible once Amadou Onana’s £50m move to Aston Villa is finalised.
