Liverpool are reportedly hoping to beat Arsenal to the summer signing of young star Sverre Nypan.
The 18-year-old was linked with a move to Arsenal in January but stayed put at his current club Rosenborg.
Now Liverpool have entered the race for the midfielder, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Norwegian youngster has caught the eye with his performances in the Eliteserien, scoring eight goals and recording seven assists in the league over their last campaign.
He has also reportedly attracted the interest of Manchester City as well as several others in Europe.
Nypan has drawn comparisons to his fellow countryman and Gunners midfielder Martin Odegaard with his style of play.
He is said to be valued at around £12m and now Reds boss Arne Slot has reportedly shown interest in the Norway under-21 international.
“Liverpool appear ready to move quickly and decisively to secure Nypan before the Gunners make their final approach,” Fichajes say.
Speaking to VG, Nypan’s father confirmed there has been interest in his son: “We know the clubs interest in Sverre. It’s been very important. It’s not been interesting to be a pawn in a big game.
“The clubs that are very interested are also very understanding of this choice and think it is completely okay. Sverre should be part of a long-term project and a generational change.
“He hasn’t played a game since the first of December. When he signs in the summer and hopefully has been injury-free, he will be at his best. It is much better to show him off with that starting point.
“We are not going to wait until the summer window opens to make a decision.”
Next up for Arsenal is a trip to Nottingham Forest as they look to put Saturday’s defeat to West Ham behind them.
Liverpool, meanwhile, take on Newcastle as they look to continue their title charge, currently leading second-placed Arsenal by 11 points.
