Mikel Arteta says Declan Rice will be assessed ahead of the game against Bournemouth after missing the win over Aston Villa with a knee injury.

The Gunners midfielder has a swollen knee and Arteta says he will need to wait to see how he comes through training on Friday to determine whether he can play on Saturday.

“We haven’t trained yet,” Arteta said. “Today is going to be the first training session with the players that started against Villa so we will know more this afternoon.”

Asked if the swelling on Rice’s knee has reduced, Arteta said: “Not yet. We have another session today. Let’s see how he comes through and how it’s feeling but it was too early, that game (Villa) for him.”

But defensive duo Riccardo Calafiori and Christhian Mosquera are again set to miss the game through injury.
