Arsenal target left out of squad as talks over transfer continue

Arsenal target Mikel Merino has been left out of the Real Sociedad squad to face Union Berlin in a pre-season friendly.

The Gunners are hoping to sign the midfielder, who is in the final year of his contract, and are exploring the options of a deal, according to Sky Sports.

Merino is said to be keen on a move to Arsenal and will not take part in the friendly with Union Berlin.

The 28-year-old played 45 times in all competitions for Sociedad last season, scoring eight times, and was part of the Spain squad which won Euro 2024.

Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi has, however, been included in the Sociedad squad.

Arne Slot is reportedly hoping to make the 25-year-old midfielder his first summer signing as Reds boss, and the Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting that Zubimendi would be keen on making the move.
