Live updates from our reporter Dan Bennett at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal host La Liga side Athletic Club, ahead of their first Premier League game against Manchester United next week.
Thanks for following along!
Now the attention for Arsenal turns to the start of the new Premier League campaign next week.
Watch the FULL reaction from Mikel Arteta after the win over Athletic Club here:
Arteta on Gyokeres’ goalscoring instincts: “That’s his nature, I think everything that he does, his movement, the way he times his runs, the way he predicts the next move and where the space can be and where the ball is going to land, that’s the instinct that he has, that’s why he scored so many goals in the last few seasons, so that’s not a coincidence, it’s his ability and he’s constantly looking for it.”
Arteta suggests players will leave the club before the transfer window shuts – and is not ruling out more incomings.
“Let’s see what happens in terms of where the squad is in the next few weeks, but we are actively looking at options as well. There are a few players maybe that may have to leave as well.”
Mikel Arteta speaking after the game on Gyokeres’ first goal: “That first goal is always very very important, the way he took it as well, really really well.”
Zubimendi wins the shoot-out for Arsenal 6-5!
The penalty shoot-out is still going on. Athletic had a chance to win it after Nwaneri missed but Sannadi put his one wide before Saka made it 4-4.
The full-time whistle goes as Arsenal win 3-0.
But there will be a penalty shoot-out too.
Merino replaces Rice, and Nwaneri comes on for Odegaard.
Saka flicks the ball through for Havertz to chase, and he bursts through on goal before showing great composure to slot it into the bottom corner. Great goal!
Zubimendi diverts the ball back into the middle after Saka’s cross is blocked and it falls to Havertz, whose shot from a few yards out deflects into the path of the goalkeeper much to his relief.
Gyokeres goes off to a standing ovation, and is replaced by Havertz.
A good showing from the Gunners’ new centre-forward this afternoon, who scored and looked dangerous throughout.
Lewis-Skelly is shown a yellow card for a trip on an Athletic player.
Lewis-Skelly and Mosquera are on for Timber and Gabriel.
Gyokeres so close to another headed goal!
Madueke picks him out and the striker stoops down to direct his effort at goal but it hits the post.
Madueke almost picks out Saka with his cross but it just evades his team-mate.
Timber wanted a penalty just before that after going down under pressure when trying to get on the end of a White cross.
Gabriel nods a corner back across goal and Timber is there a couple of yards out but he heads over while under pressure.
Madueke and White are on for the second half, replacing Martinelli and Calafiori.
Timber has gone out to left-back.
We’re back underway!
The teams are back out for the second half!
Goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka give Arsenal a 2-0 lead at the break.
Arsenal double their lead almost instantly!
Odegaard clips the ball over the top for Martinelli to run onto and with Saka alongside him, opts to play it to his team-mate who slots it into the net with goalkeeper Simon off his goal-line.
Arsenal take the lead thanks to a superb header from Gyokeres.
Zubimendi whips in a great ball from out on the right and the striker glances it into the far corner.

Nice footwork from Gyokeres before he cuts it back for Calafiori to shoot, but his effort flies well over.
Rice’s curving corner clips the top of the crossbar.
Athletic are forced into an early change as Gomez goes off to be replaced by Navarro. Play is back underway now after a brief break while Gomez received treatment.
