Mikel Arteta is adamant that his Arsenal side have produced the form that is good enough to have won silverware over the past few seasons.

The Gunners will go another season without a trophy after being knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage by PSG.

Reacting to that defeat, Arteta claimed his side were “much better” than PSG and deserved to go through in the tie.

And the Arsenal boss says his current side is ready to win silverware.

“We are there,” he said when asked about where his side need to improve going into next season.

“With the amount of points that we have generated in the last few seasons, we could have two Premier Leagues.

“It’s not close, we are there. We are providing the numbers that win you titles. We have to be a little bit luckier or hope nobody does that season better than you.

“Again, what we did in the Champions League with those numbers, we have a big probability of winning it. That’s why a lot of people were thinking we could go all the way.”

Arsenal tried to add attacking reinforcements in the January window but were ultimately unsuccessful in their attempts, and injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz meant midfielder Mikel Merino has spent much of the second half of the season playing as a makeshift striker.

Asked whether he needs one of his current players, or a new signing, to score over 25 goals in the league for Arsenal to win the title, Arteta responded: “I would look more broader.

“If you score over 90 goals, you have a high, high probability of winning the Premier League. It doesn’t guarantee you but you have a high probability if your defensive record is good as well.

“It’s also very dependent on how many points has he contributed with his goals?”

Do I have to be MORE CLEAR?! | SPIKY Arteta in response to striker questions

Pushed on whether he needs to bring in a new striker, Arteta said: “Do I have to make it more clear?

“In January, was it clear or no?

“It was a very clear statement and the statement continues the same.

“I want the best team, the best players, if we have three players who can score over 25, bring them in and we’re going to be a much better team.”

Arteta’s January comments

Speaking back in January about whether the club needed a new forward, he said: “Have I ever said no to a striker?

“My opinion is clear, we lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus so we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the front line, it’s clear.

“If we can get the right player, that’s what we’re actively looking at. Any player? No. Someone that makes us better and has an impact on the team. We need some help, we’re very short already but the team is coping. We have to do what is right for the club.”
