Mikel Arteta says he does not expect the January transfer window to be a busy one for Arsenal.

The Gunners signed Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino and David Raya on permanent deals in the summer as well as adding Raheem Sterling and goalkeeper Neto on loan.

And asked if he expects further signings in January, Arteta said: “I don’t expect and never expect January to be super busy.

“But we have to wait and see where we are. Some surprises can come, we are prepared for that if there are some opportunities and we’ll have to see.

“Hopefully the availability of the squad is going to be better in a few weeks but we’ll have to wait and see.”

Arsenal are currently without a permanent sporting director following the departure of Edu but Arteta insists that will not impact the club’s ability to do deals.

“We have one, Jason Ayto is our interim sporting director and he has the full capacity right now, the full support of the football club and is doing really well with his team,” Arteta said.

“And then the process is open as you know. The club, with the support of all of us will decide who is the best person to move us forward.”
