Arteta on the chances of more Arsenal signings before the transfer deadline, Mosquera injury worry and win over Aston Villa

Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are continuing to look for opportunities to strengthen the squad before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The Arsenal boss says he has been fully focused on his side’s clash with Aston Villa over the past 24 hours, which the Gunners won 1-0, but said the club would return their attention to the transfer market ahead of the window closing.

“As I said, we are trying to improve the squad and until tomorrow night, we’re going to try to do that,” Arteta said.

“I’ve been disconnected from the world for 24 hours because I think my energy and focus has to be on the match. I will get back on it now.”

Arteta was also able to provide a positive update on defender Cristhian Mosquera, who was substituted after appearing to be struggling with a potential injury issue.

The Spaniard was replaced by Ezri Konsa, with Arteta insisting the change was made as a precaution.

“He’s fine, but he was feeling like he was about to have something,” Arteta explained.

“That’s why we have the bench that we have. That’s why we have to bring in Ezri.”

Bukayo Saka’s goal proved the difference as Arsenal claimed all three points against Aston Villa, with Arteta praising the contribution of his entire squad.

The Gunners boss believes Arsenal’s depth could become a significant strength over the course of the season after their hard-fought away win at Villa Park.

“Everybody that was involved in the game in any capacity made a difference for us,” Arteta said.

“That’s a big message for all of us because with the depth that we have and with the quality that we have, if we really make that count, that’s going to be a massive weapon for us.”
