Live updates from Villa Park as Aston Villa host Tottenham.
Watch what else Postecoglou had to say after Tottenham’s 21st league defeat of the season here:
Several key players including Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were not even in the squad tonight but Postecoglou says it was the right thing to do despite the defeat, ahead of the Europa League final.
“They’re available. For us, there’s no point bringing them here if they weren’t going to play today. They stayed at home, did a really good, strong session and come Wednesday, knock on wood they are all available and that’s the most important thing.
“That was the primary thing because when those guys play, that back four with Vicario in goal, our chances of success significantly improve.
Pape Matar Sarr was forced off tonight in another injury worry for Spurs but Postecoglou does not think it is a serious issue.
“We took him off as a bit of a precaution. I don’t think it’s anything too significant speaking to him afterwards, he just felt something in his back.”
Full-time at Villa Park and Aston Villa win the match 2-0, and quite comfortably.
Morgan Rogers, who got the assist for Villa’s second, tries his luck from range but Kevin Danso is able to head his shot over the bar.
Chance for Leon Bailey to take on Djed Spence, but the Spurs fullback has the better of the Villa sub and ushers the ball off the pitch.
Tottenham just can’t hold onto the ball. Villa win back the loose ball and calmly pass it through Spurs.
It’s too easy for Unai Emery’s men.
We go on for at least another six minutes.
John McGinn comes off for Leon Bailey.
Amadou Onana is replaced by Ross Barkley.
Richarlison and Brennan Johnson replaced Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore.
Ollie Watkins is coming off for Donyell Malen.
Amadou Onana goes down clutching his leg.
The Belgian is back on his feet but moving gingerly.
Heung-min Son and Sergio Reguilon depart for Rodrigo Bentancur and Dominic Solanke.
The Tottenham substitutes can wait because Villa have a second of the game!
On his weaker foot, Boubacar Kamara cuts inside and fires the ball into the bottom corner!
We have a double change for Spurs coming…
The Villa goal has given the hosts a new lease of life, but Spurs are looking very flat since conceding.
Not a good sign.
The free kick comes to nothing.
Silly free kick to give away from Ian Maatsen, who shoves through Mikey Moore as he runs towards goal.
Chance for Spurs here.
Mathys Tel is shown a yellow for taking out Ezri Konsa.
Antonin Kinsky saves Tottenham again!
Ollie Watkins should make it 2-0, but his shot towards the bottom corner is saved well by the young Czechia goalkeeper.
And just like that Aston Villa lead!
Ollie Watkins is left unmarked from a corner to head towards goal, and Ezri Konsa was in the right place to make sure of the goal as he scooped the ball into the bottom corner!
That’s a solid two minutes of possession for Tottenham.
Only problem was they didn’t have any shot at the end of it. Promising signs though.
Free kick for Spurs after Onana fouls Moore.
Pape Sar comes off for Yves Bissouma.
