Sonia Bompastor has hinted that Chelsea fans can expect more minutes for Aggie Beever-Jones very soon.

Despite featuring regularly and impressing in pre season, Beever-Jones found herself relegated to the bench for tonight’s WSL opener against Aston Villa, which Chelsea narrowly won by way of Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s first half goal.

Beever-Jones was subbed on in place of Mayra Ramirez with 23 minutes remaining and struggled to impact the game as Chelsea found themselves on the back foot for much of the match’s dying moments.

Despite that, Bompastor seemed to hint that she can expect a bigger role in coming matches.

She said: “You know when you have a competitive squad it is always difficult not to make more players start the game because they deserve the time to play. I think Aggie had a great pre-season, she showed me a lot of good things.”

It is hard to argue against Beever-Jones’ pre-season record. Her most notable performance came in Chelsa’s nine-goal drubbing of Feyenoord, during which she scored a hat trick despite playing less than 3 minutes. She also scored against Gotham FC earlier in the summer.

Bompastor went on to add that Beever-Jones, who has become something of a fan favourite since breaking into the first team in 2021, has a good attitude in training and seems determined to crack the starting eleven.

She said: “She is very positive, she is working really hard, and I think that is good for the team.

“Sometimes that is my job, I have to make some choices so tonight she did not start the game, but I knew she would be able to come on and make a difference.”
