The round of 16 did not leave fans wanting for action. Tottenham Hotspur upset Manchester City in the late kickoff, while Newcastle made light work of Chelsea at St James’ Park. Liverpool dispatched Brighton in short order by way of a Cody Gakpo brace, and Ruud Van Nistelrooy put five pasdt Leicester City to open his Manchester United tenure.

The last remaining Championship side in the tournament, Preston North End, could not stand up to Arsenal at Deepdale, suffering a 0-3 loss thanks to goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and teenage phenom Ethan Nwaneri.
