Carsley: Nothing has changed with Ben White’s situation

Interim England boss Lee Carsley says Ben White’s situation with the national team has not changed.

The Arsenal defender is once again not part of the Three Lions’ squad – Carsley’s first since taking over from Gareth Southgate on an interim basis.

White asked not to be selected for Southgate’s squad back in March and has not been in the squad since leaving the 2022 World Cup camp in Qatar early following a disagreement with Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland.

And Carsley, who will take charge of England against the Republic of Ireland and Finland next month, says White was again not available.

“As far as I’m aware, he wasn’t available for selection,” Carsley said.

“Nothing has changed in my two weeks of being here so that’s where we’re at with it.

“I’ve seen in some of the press reports that he was open to it but it’s gone no further. So as far as I’m aware, there’s been no change there.

“He’s always played well but he made himself unavailable for selection so I’m not sure where we go with that.”

Carsley has, however, sprung a few surprises with his selection by naming several new faces.
