Facundo Buonanotte has been called up to Chelsea’s Champions League squad to replace the injured Dario Essugo.

Buonanotte, who is on loan at the Blues for the season from Brighton, was originally left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the league stage of the competition.

But following a thigh injury suffered by Essugo for which he has undergone surgery, the Argentine has now been added to the squad.

Essugo suffered the injury while on international duty with Portugal U21s.

Buonanotte could now make his Champions League debut when Chelsea take on Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
