Chelsea are weighing up their interest in another of Southampton’s young stars in defender Lewis Day, Hayters understands.

The central defender is attracting the interest of several clubs, including the Blues.

Chelsea have a history of raiding Southampton for their academy stars, having previously brought in Jimmy-Jay Morgan from the Saints, who is currently on loan at League One side Peterborough.

They also brought in Tyler Dibling for a short period, before he returned to his boyhood club and broke into the first team, which was followed by a move to Everton.

Teenager Day, a first-year scholar at the club, is yet to put pen to paper on a pro contract with Southampton.

He has returned from a long-term injury this season and has impressed with his two-footedness and composure on the ball, and Chelsea are aware of his talents.
