‘11 v 11 we were better’ - Enzo Maresca

“I think we showed we are heading in the right direction. I always say the same. The performance has been fantastic. We were a much better team than them 11 v 11 but with 10 players, it is difficult but we dealt with it outstandingly.

Enzo Maresca speaking to Sky Sports: “11 v 11, we were better than them. We tried to exploit the best solution, the best space. We knew the space was for Malo and Estevao on that side. Tonight we can be happy even if we didn’t win.”

Arteta ‘very proud’

Mikel Arteta speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I don’t know the right words because I’m disappointed obviously with not getting the three points against 10 men. But with everything that happened in the week, I think overall I just have to be very proud of what the team has done.”

Arteta says Arsenal players had to be careful

Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: “We had four players with yellow cards and you could see they were targeting those players. The first action in the section half, we conceded and we had to get through that. We scored a brilliant goal. We had two or three big chances.”

Merino disappointed but praises Arsenal team-mates

Mikel Merino speaking to Sky Sports:

“On one hand, disappointed because we didn’t win. When you wear this shirt, you want to win every game. This is a really tough stadium to come and take a point. We could have done things better but the team showed good mentality.

“Maybe managing the game better and understanding what they were trying to do. With 10 men, we could have had more patience with the ball. Trying to find the wings and cross with players in the box. Obviously, they are a good side.”

James says Chelsea’s performance ‘a big statement’

Chelsea’s Reece James speaking to Sky Sports after the game: “I think everyone can see where we are and what we are fighting for. I think today was a big statement. Even though we wanted to win, there are lots of positives to take.“

90'
Full-time (Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal)

An enthralling watch, from start to finish. A proper derby. But the spoils are shared. Who will be happier with that? Surely Enzo Maresca.

His side were down to 10 and played brilliantly. You couldn’t tell they had a man less. Mikel Arteta will surely be disappointed. His team didn’t offer too much.

But Arsenal remain top of the league.

Sanchez clattered (Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal)

After going to collect a rebound, Gyokeres clatters into Sacnchez. A nasty one for the Spaniard.

Can either team find a winner? (Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal)

It’s been a fascinating game, but bereft of many good chances. You wonder if both teams would settle for a draw at this stage.

Gyokeres on for Eze.

We’re back underway at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea still managing to keep it level with 10 men.

45'
Half-time (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

It’s been a game of more fouls and drama than quality. But it has nevertheless been a good spectacle.

It was fairly even, but you’d expect the red card to change things in the second period.

45'
Sanchez makes a great save (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

Sanchez has just denied Martinelli with a brilliant save down low to his right.

38'
Caicedo sent off (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

Moises Caicedo has been sent off for a horrible ankle challenge on Mikel Merino.

33'
Cucurella may have to be substituted (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

Cucurella is playing a very dangerous game. He’s on a yellow, and still getting incredibly tight to Saka.

For his sake and the sake of the team, he may have to come off so he doesn’t get sent off.

29'
The game is getting scrappy (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

It’s been a game rife with tension and fouls, and not much quality in honesty.

18'
Estevao skies a great chance (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

The best chance of the game has fallen to Estevao, and given his recent form, you’d expect him to score that.

The ball fell to him inside the box after a cross, and he skied it into row Z.

14'
Taylor has set himself up for a tough afternoon (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

Bad fouls need to be carded, but referee Anthony Taylor has brandished three yellows already.

You wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a red card in this game.

13'
Saka with the first effort (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

Saka has a good effort that tests Sanchez, and in breaking away afterwards,Joao Pedro is brought down by Mosquera, and the Arsenal CB also gets a booking.

11'
Cucurella carded (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

Cucurella receives a yellow card for a challenge on Saka. A very silly yellow card to pick up.

6'
Early yellow card for Zubimendi (Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal)

Zubimendi is in the book already for a cynical challenge on Reece James.
