Chelsea 2-0 Brentford LIVE – Palmer and Joao Pedro goals give Rosenior win in first Premier League game in charge

Liam Rosenior says Estevao was struggling with illness, which is why he was not involved today. There has been a virus going around at Chelsea with several players suffering.

Liam Rosenior says the most pleasing aspect of today’s win was his players’ “willingness to fight”.

He also praises Cole Palmer and Reece James for their efforts after returning from injuries.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews: “We just weren’t clinical enough with the chances we had. We didn’t give up anything at the other end. I’m proud of the performance levels. The growth of the team is there for everyone to see.”

Chelsea goalscorer Joao Pedro: “This game was very important for us because we went a long time without a clean sheet. They are a very tough opponent.”

Very good win for Chelsea and Rosenior. Brentford threatened, but Chelsea were worth the victory.

That will give their new manager a lot of confidence.

Brentford haven’t managed a chance in a while. It looks as though the win is Chelsea’s.

This has been a very impressive performance from the Blues in Rosenior’s very first PL home game.

A long way still to go, but Chelsea look comfortable.

Instant impact from Delap. He won the penalty less than two minutes after coming onto the pitch.

Palmer converts the spot kick.

Penalty for Chelsea as Delap is brought down following a mistake from Kelleher. He tried to control the ball but couldn’t and brought down Delap.

Collins passed the ball to Kelleher which he couldn’t control, and to be fair it was also a poor pass.

Delap on for Joao Pedro.

Igor Thiago has been very quiet, but heads wide here from a good cross.

Cucurella booked for bringing down Schade as he tried to go clear on goal near the halfway line.

Schade has been excellent. A real thorn in Chelsea’s side.

Brentford and their fans seem to be sensing an opportunity here, as Janelt shoots and wins a corner.

The away fans are very much finding their voices.

Chelsea have to settle the game down.

Schade is played clean through and shoots cleanly, but Sanchez sticks out a leg and somehow saves.

Rosenior will be hoping his side can build on their lead in the second period.

Both teams will go into half-time feeling they should have each scored one more. Schade missed a brilliant chance for Brentford and Garnacho missed an open goal.

Chelsea probably deserve to be leading but Brentford look dangerous.

What a block from Caicedo on Yarmoliuk to block a great chance.

Excellent work from Neto who sprinted down the right and sent a fizzing ball across the box. Garnacho got on the end of it and somehow missed an open goal.

Damsgaard played in Jensen with a lovely flick. Jensen hit it on the volley but it unfortunately skims the outside of the post.

Schade pushed Cucurella to the ground after a Brentford corner and has been booked.

The game has been played at a quick tempo and neither side has had control. Chelsea can try and move the ball and establish some dominance now.
