Maresca laments Chelsea mistakes

Maresca laments his side’s “game changing mistakes” and says they must improve, having also lost at Manchester United last week following a red card.

Maresca: Red card changed our plan

Enzo Maresca says his Chelsea side were completely in control of the game but that the red card “changed the plan”.

Full time (Chelsea 1-3 Brighton)

This season is quickly spiralling into disaster for Chelsea. They have one win in their last five and red cards in back-to-back Premier League games.

They have injuries and suspensions in defence, problems in goal and Enzo Maresca is not helping himself with strange substitutions.

Brighton throughly deserved the win and after Chalobah was sent off it seemed there would only ever be one winner.

BRIGHTON HAVE WON IT (Chelsea 1-3 Brighton)

Minteh won it from Chelsea right outside their own box before Gruda plays in Welbeck who smashes past Sanchez to seal the win for Brighton

Reece James calls for a penalty (Chelsea 1-2 Brighton)

James wriggles past Minteh on the right byline near Brighton’s goal before going into the box and being clipped. He wanted a penalty as did all of Stamford Bridge but it wasn’t given

92'
BRIGHTON SCORE (Chelsea 1-2 Brighton)

Brighton work a corner, Minteh to Ayari, who whips it in to the box. Wieffer connects with it and heads it on to De Cuyper in the middle of the box, who easily dispatches.

Have Brighton won it? What a HUGE goal

Brighton penalty appeal denied (Chelsea 1-1 Brighton)

Gusto had a high boot and seemingly connected with Minteh’s head in the box, but after a long review VAR rule no penalty

86'
Five minutes to go... (Chelsea 1-1 Brighton)

There’s five minutes plus added time to go.

Can either side grab a winner?

Negative substitutions? (Chelsea 1-1 Brighton)

Badiashile and Lavia on does not suggest that Chelsea are going to try and win this…

Brighton SCORE (Chelsea 1-1 Brighton)

Minteh goes down the left byline before whipping in a zipping cross to Danny Welbeck, who gets his head on it and scores for Brighton.

75'
Gusto wastes a counter-attack (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Gusto was set free by Enzo Fernandez with nothing but space in front of him but decided, instead of running forward, to Ronaldo-chop and pass back.

Maresca goes ballistic on the touchline

69'
Josh Acheampong takes a huge risk (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Well Chelsea have to retain some composure here. Josh Acheampong, who has just come on, decides to try and take on five players in his own half and loses it, almost resulting in a Brighton goal but for a Reece James recovery.

Poor decision-making

This feels like deja vu... (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Like last week, Estevao is taken off after the red card. This time for Malo Gusto

56'
Change for Chelsea (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Josh Acheampong comes on for Andrey Santos after the red card

55'
Chelsea keep pressing self destruct (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Last week against Manchester United it was Rob Sanchez, this week it is Trevoh Chalobah. Chelsea cannot seem to keep their discipline

Chelsea RED CARD (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

A foul by Trevoh Chalobah on Diego Gomez when he was clean through on goal was put through a lengthy review by VAR and Simon Hooper then decided it was a red card

We're back underway (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Can Chelsea hang on to their lead or will Brighton pull it back? Let’s see in the second 45…

45'
Half time (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

It’s been an entertaining half, and Chelsea deserve the lead. They came out of the blocks quick and got the goal their play warranted.

Since the goal th game has slowed down and Brighton have felt their way into it.

Minteh has been so threatening for Hurzeler’s side and you feel if Brighton are to score he will surely be involved

43'
Chance for Brighton (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Brighton receive a free kick after Cucrella commits a foul outside the box.

Ayari whips in to Dunk, but he cant’t direct his header on target and it goes begging

39'
Baleba waltzes through the Chelsea midfield (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Baleba has just ran past the entire Chelsea midfield, far too easily. He fed Minteh who this time couldn’t get past Cucurella and took it out of play

34'
Minteh has been excellent (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Brighton have not been too threatening but Yankuba Minteh has been. He’s causing Hato and Chalobah all sort of problems on the right for Brighton

32'
Brighton fans extremely unhappy (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

“1-0 to the referee”, sing the Brighton fans.

You can hardly blame them for being angry after that mishap by Simon Hooper

30'
Yasin Ayari denied (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Well that was strange. Yasin Ayari was in the perfect position just outside the box to rifle home a shot, and was blocked… by the referee.

It was of course unintentional, but both the Brighton fans and players are furious.

28'
It's been coming for Chelsea (Chelsea 1-0 Brighton)

Chelsea have been by far the more dangerous team and have come close on two or three occasions already.

This goal had been coming. Maresca will be hoping his side can keep this up
