Chelsea would like to sign an “emphatic striker” in January, says The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella.
“They really would like a top target man who is emphatic like [Napoli’s] Victor Osimhen. Ivan Toney [at Brentford] is also admired,” the Chelsea correspondent told us in an exclusive HaytersTV interview.
Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez has also been linked with Chelsea who are unsure whether he will be able to make an immediate impact.
Chelsea are also looking at centre backs and have asked for information about Jean-Clair Todibo and Ousmane Diomonde, according to Kinsella.
“Chelsea are one of many Premier League clubs who need to slow down a bit on the spending and are likely to adopt a one in one out policy” Kinsella explained.
One player who could leave Chelsea is Conor Gallagher with London rivals Tottenham interested in the midfielder.
Kinsella mentioned that Gallagher is very important to Chelsea and it would not be a popular move. However, if a great offer comes in, they might accept.
Trevor Chalobah is another player attracting interest with many clubs wanting to loan him.
“Chelsea would rather do sales than loans” Kinsella says as Ian Maatsen has already departed the club on loan to Borussia Dortmund.
Existing Chelsea forwards Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku are set to return from injury.
“They might already have the goalscoring option but they don’t know that yet and that’s what’s confusing them,” Kinsella added.
“Chelsea are having a look around; they’re trying to do something but if not, they will be in a good position in the summer to try and sign some big names.”
