Chukwuemeka hails Enzo influence as youngster looks to impress Pochettino

Chelsea youngster Carney Chukwuemeka has hailed the influence of Enzo Fernandez as the 19-year-old looks to impress new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The midfielder, who joined from Aston Villa last summer, made 15 appearances for the Blues last season and made a promising impact in the final two matches.

A change of management has given Chukwuemeka fresh impetus to try and establish himself as a key member of Chelsea’s first-team squad and regular communication with midfield partner Enzo has been key to his development.

“Enzo and I always talk in training,” Chukwuemeka told HaytersTV on their pre-season tour of the US.

“He always gives me advice on some passes and things that he does that maybe I can add to my game and vice versa.

“It’s top to play with Enzo. He’s a great guy and a great player.”

Chukwuemeka is relishing the prospect of featuring under Pochettino and praised the Argentine’s ability to develop young players and bring them into the first team picture.

“I’m very excited,” he continued.

“He’s a big manager who has achieved a lot. He’s helped young players and hopefully he can replicate that with me.”

Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States kicks off this evening as they entertain Wrexham at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
