Delight for Klopp as Liverpool finish top of group

Liverpool have sailed through their Europa League group, as Jurgen Klopp’s side demolished LASK 4-0 at Anfield.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah sealed victory in comfortable style, as Liverpool sealed top spot in the group.

Liverpool sit on 12 points, with four wins and a single loss to Toulouse. Klopp expressed his relief of finishing in first place.

“The most important thing is that we are at the head of the group and that will not change so that is good”, said the Liverpool boss.

“There was a lot of good stuff and some stuff I did not like too much, but that is how it is. We say it all the time, we still have to grow and develop. There was some good football but this game should have been put to bed before half-time.

“If you are on the front foot and in charge then kill it. We did not do that. At 2-0 and 3-0 great, we opened the game up a little bit and gave them changes. It is fantastic to win 4-0.”

Klopp will be eager to continue Liverpool’s excellent Premier League form as they host Fulham on Sunday. The Reds have just one defeat in 13 league games.

Liverpool can now afford to take their foot off the gas, heading into their final Europa League group game, with their fate already decided.

“Good. It will be an important game for Union Saint-Gilloise in our final game so we will go there and we play football games to win but it is good that we do not have to. This competition finishes for a bit but another starts in January.”
