England will begin their attempt to win EURO 2024 next summer with a match against Serbia.
Gareth Southgate’s side were runners-up to Italy in the last European Championship and were kept apart from their old rivals when the draw was made in Hamburg. England’s other opponents are Slovenia and Denmark.
Southgate said: “You look at Serbia with a centre forward like Aleksander Mitrovic and then you have to be careful not to assume anything when you see these draws, that’s for certain.
“Slovenia was one of the first games I had as England manager and I will always remember Joe Hart made a save that day that if he didn’t make, I might not be still England manager so you do think back to those moments.”
Scotland will play Germany in the opening match of the tournament. Their other opponents will be Hungary and Switzerland.
