Enzo Maresca says Reece James will not play more than one game a week for the time being following the defender’s recovery from his latest injury setback.
James is available for the first time this season for the trip to Liverpool on Sunday having missed the entirety of the campaign due to a hamstring injury.
But Blues boss Enzo Maresca says he will be very careful with the 24-year-old following his nightmare with injuries over the past couple of years.
He said: “He’s available, finally he is back. He worked with us all of the international break and it’s good news especially for him because being injured is not a good feeling, so finally he is back.
“It’s complicated when you keep getting injured again. It’s not easy, so you are always looking for the solution.
“Probably the solution with Reece is the same solution with Romeo (Lavia) and Wes (Fofana) in terms of using them just once a week, one game, because at the moment Reece’s body probably cannot play twice a week.
“So probably one of the solutions is we’re going to try to manage him in the same way we are doing with Wes and Romeo.”
