‘He’ll have no problems’ – Evans impressed by Yoro and hopes youngster’s injury is ‘not too serious’

Veteran Manchester United defender Jonny Evans says new signing Lenny Yoro has all the tools to become a top player for the club.

The 18-year-old defender joined United for £52m this summer from Lille and featured in the 2-1 pre-season friendly defeat to Arsenal.

Yoro was forced off with injury after the half-hour mark, but Evans says he has been impressed by the glimpses he has seen from the youngster.

“He’s a young lad and there’s a lot of hype around him, we paid a lot of money for him,” Evans said.

“I think the club and the fans were delighted to get a young player of that calibre to come to the club.

“There’s big expectations of him, he’s young, but it’s up to us senior players to help him along.

“He’s a very level headed, confident boy. The game I played with him at Rangers, he looked very calm and that was one of the pleasing things to see.

“He’s got a real maturity and calmness and he’ll have no problems.”

Rasmus Hojlund was also substituted off with injury against Arsenal but Evans is hoping neither are too serious.

He said: “Obviously you do not want any injuries in pre-season. That is one of the biggest things you are trying to avoid.

“We do not know how bad their injuries are. Hopefully not too bad.”
