Manchester United and England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has insisted that England can triumph at the World Cup this summer.

The 21-year-old was included in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the tournament. He is currently in Florida with the rest of the Three Lions’ squad at their warmup camp.

“Yeah, 100%,” Mainoo answered on whether England can go all the way in this summer’s World Cup. “100%. I feel like everyone in the squad, the staff, everyone believes we can win it.

“But that doesn’t come easy and it’s going to come in the first game, the second game. We have to build and build and build and I think that’s what we have to focus on.”

The midfielder featured heavily for England two years ago, as they reached the 2024 Euros final. However, this will be Mainoo’s maiden World Cup.

“Very special,” he said on the prospect of playing in the World Cup for the first time. “It’s something I’ve dreamed of and I’m sure all the players have dreamed of since we were really young.

“So, to be here and say that I’m playing in a World Cup is unbelievable.

“I’ve always wanted to play in a World Cup for all my life. It’s the biggest tournament in the world.

“So it’s definitely different from the Euros, but I’m trying to approach it in the same way with the goal that we want to win. And the whole team is working hard and it’s coming together really nicely.”
