Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is tipping Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League but says Atalanta must also be respected.

The Spaniard made 120 appearances in European club competitions across a glittering career.

Leverkusen are up 2-0 in their semi-final with Roma heading into the second leg, while Atalanta are level at 1-1 with Marseille.

And the current assistant manager of Italian side Como is backing both to reach the final.

“I think the Europa League is growing,” Fabregas said.

“Every year you get the chance to watch better and better games, better clubs, either making it the year before in the league or getting knocked out of the Champions League group stage.

“It’s a competition that is growing, 100 per cent. I see a lot of quality, good teams in it, a lot of good players and good coaches and I’ve been impressed with a couple of games.

“My pick for the winner this season, I think, would be Bayer Leverkusen, but we also need to pay attention to Atalanta because they are a very difficult team to play against.

“They go man to man, across the whole pitch they are very physical, they make it very difficult to play against them so let’s see.”

CESC FABREGAS WAS SPEAKING AT THE LAUNCH EVENT OF ENTERPRISE RENT-A-PLAYER COMPETITION, IN LONDON.
