Fernandez on Chelsea win: ‘I trust my teammates to the death’

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez says he will “trust my teammates to the death” after the Blues came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 3-1.

Goals from Conor Gallagher and Fernandez, two of which were in second half stoppage time, set Mauricio Pochettino’s side on their way to victory. A Jefferson Lerma screamer in the first half had put Palace in front before a second period resurgence set Chelsea on their way to victory.

Speaking to Paramount+ Mexico reporter Rodrigo Lara, Fernandez was delighted with the response shown by himself and his side after a frustrating first period.

“The first half I did not feel completely comfortable,” the Argentine said. “In the first half they played very compact, with a line of five defenders and four midfielders so it was very difficult.

“In the second half, we were able to improve as a group. I think we corrected some mistakes and we were able to find those spaces that we were missing, so luckily the victory came.

“Luckily I’m getting the goals, so I’m happy and I want to continue in this way. I try to give my best in every training session, to try hard, to be better every day and well, things are coming and that makes me very happy.

Victory for Chelsea saw them rise to tenth in the Premier League with two huge matches coming up in the next two weeks, with an away trip to Manchester City followed by the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

With a first cup final in English football on the horizon for Fernandez, the Argentine has full faith in his teammates as they look for a first piece of silverware under Pochettino.

“We are Chelsea and I trust our team. I trust my team-mates to the death, I am with them to the death.

“No matter what happens, I trust them a lot and we are working day by day to improve and correct our mistakes.

“We want to arrive in the best possible way to the final.”
