Foden reveals he is hoping to play in central role more often

Phil Foden says he is “delighted” with his form at Manchester City but says he hopes to get more opportunity to play in a central position.

The 23-year-old netted a brilliant hat-trick as City came from behind to beat Brentford 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium to move just two points behind league leaders Liverpool and with a game in hand on their rivals.

Foden has been used in a variety of positions for both Manchester City under boss Pep Guardiola as well as for his national side England but told Sky Sports after the game that he hopes to eventually settle into a role in the middle of the pitch.

“I’m delighted with the way I’m playing, it’s probably the best form I’ve had in a City shirt for a long time,” Foden said.

“Obviously it would help if I played one position and learned that position every game but I’m a person that adapts and plays a lot of positions when needed.

“I know in this Man City side I’m going to do that, play a lot of positions, and I have to be ready.

“But I just enjoy playing anywhere in the middle. I think that’s where I see myself playing the best football so I hope that I can keep getting more game time in the middle and hopefully keep playing there as much as I can.”
