Former Man United striker says his old club have ‘half-chance’ of winning FA Cup

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke says his old side have a “half-chance” of winning the FA Cup against Manchester City on Saturday and could face an “embarrassing scoreline” if they don’t set up properly.

Yorke, who won three Premier League titles, a Champions League and an FA Cup with Manchester United, is fearing the worst for his former side against a Manchester City team that will be brimming with confidence following a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Under Erik ten Hag, United have been on the end of some heavy defeats including a 7-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, a 4-0 defeat against Brentford and a 6-3 defeat to Manchester City. Yorke feels that if the Dutchman fails to win the tactical battle with Pep Guardiola, they could succumb to yet another hefty loss at Wembley.

“Manchester City have just won the Premier League convincingly, in a fashion that only champions are able to do,” Yorke said in an interview with Crypto Casino.

“After coming off the back of a treble last season, they’ll want to create more history by defending the FA Cup this weekend, so they’re definitely the strong favourites going into this game.

“Manchester United need to be at their best from a tactical point of view and a lot will depend on the formation Erik ten Hag plays, as well as the personnel available. If they have a fully fit team, then they’ll have half a chance against them considering it’s a one-off game, but they’re going to need a lot of luck going in their favour to get a result.”

Yorke also spoke of Erling Haaland’s mixed season. Despite winning the Premier League Golden Boot with 27 goals, the Norwegian has faced criticism regarding his all-round play and some of the simple chances he passes up. Yorke believes that if Haaland is at the races, then United will struggle to contain him.

He said: “You think of Erling Haaland missing all the chances that he has, yet City are still able to conjure up other players to score their goals.

“If he is playing well and taking his chances, then United are in desperate trouble! They need everything to go in their way to have any chance of lifting the trophy – they need to play an unbelievable game with a lot going in their favour and take all the opportunities that come their way.

“The odds will be stacked against them and it could be quite an embarrassing scoreline, but alternatively they could pick City’s pockets and sneak a result.”
