Guardiola fears Stones will be ‘out for a while’

Man City manager Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola says he expects John Stones to be out for a while with the injury which forced him off at half-time of Man City’s 3-0 Champions League win over Young Boys.

Stones has only recently returned from a hip injury which forced him to miss the start of this season and has made just five appearances this campaign.

And Guardiola says the injury looks to be a serious one.

“It’s muscular, he will be a while out,” Guardiola said.

“It’s a pity for him because he’s an incredible professional, he tried to do it but yeah, it’s a pity. It’s bad news for us, the bad news for tonight.

“I feel so sorry for him because he’s so incredible and efficient in his commitment and it’s a big loss for us.

“John is so important for us with what he does. So yeah, recover and the season is long so he will be back stronger.”

City confirmed their qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League with their win over Young Boys but still need to secure their place as group winners in the remaining two games.
