Guimaraes tells Newcastle he wants to join Arsenal – latest reports

Bruno Guimaraes has told Newcastle of his wish to leave the club and join Arsenal this summer.

The Athletic have reported Guimaraes’ desire to leave St James’ Park, with Arsenal set to step up their pursuit of the Brazilian midfielder.

Arsenal have expressed a willingness to pay around £60m for the 28-year-old, who has two years left on his contract.

Newcastle have already sold midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and forward Anthony Gordon to Barcelona during this window and are reluctant to lose another key player.

But they could face the prospect of Guimaraes running down his contract and leaving for free if they do not cash in before that.
