Haaland ‘maybe the best player in the world’ says Odegaard

Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard reckons Norway team-mate Erling Haaland might be the best player in the world at the moment.

Haaland has set the Premier League alight since his arrival at Manchester City, scoring 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions last season and has started this campaign in a similar vein of form – netting eight goals in his first eight league games.

The 23-year-old has been nominated for the Ballon D’Or, which is widely expected to be won by Argentina star and World Cup winner Lionel Messi.

But Odegaard reckons his compatriot might be deserving instead.

“Of course we have, with Haaland now, maybe the best player in the world,” Odegaard said ahead of Norway’s European Championships qualifier against Spain on Sunday.

“We have to get the best out of him, but we’re a team and that’s the most important thing.

“We need the team to work together and that’s the key thing for us. I think if the team is working, then each player will look better as well.

“We want to be there in the Euros. That’s been a big goal for us for a long time and that’s where we want to be.”
