Howe hails ‘magnificent’ Isak and new Bowen contract delights Moyes

Eddie Howe gave praise to Alexander Isak’s performance as the Swede bagged a brace in Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with West Ham at the London Stadium.

Isak scored two goals in five minutes as Newcastle came from behind, only to concede an equaliser late on to Mohammed Kudus.

Isak started ahead of Callum Wilson due to the Englishman having a slight knock, and the Newcastle goalscorer could have sealed his great performance with a hattrick.

“I think he has played really well today. He has gone round the keeper, it was a really tight angle on his left foot, he has done everything right. It was just one of those moments where the angle go too tight in the end”, said Howe.

“Looking back having drawn, the game you probably go woosh that is one moment maybe we would like to replay again. It is not a criticism of him, I thought he was magnificent for us today.”

David Moyes will be the happier of the two bosses and can celebrate the point along with a new contract for Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen has signed a seven year deal at the London Stadium after a terrific couple of years in East London. He has contributed with goals and assists and scored the winning goal to clinch the Conference League trophy last season .

“Jarrod has signed a new deal. It will be announced tonight. Great news for us here at West Ham and the supporters. He has done amazing since he has been here, continues to improve. Even today Pope makes an unbelievable save with his hands which could have just changed the game at the end”, Moyes said.

“He has been really good. If you think of his own development as an individual, he started at Hereford and worked his way up the football league pyramid. He ends up at Hull, then eventually gets to the Premier League.

“He is getting a chance to be in the England squad, to see what he can do, I think we will get better and in time he may become a centre forward.”
