Arsenal supporters have launched a new petition. Unlike the last one, it has been warmly received. Earlier this summer, a campaign opposing the signing of Chelsea’s Noni Madueke backfired badly, drawing criticism from Arsenal players and the wider fanbase. But this latest initiative has struck a far more positive tone, with calls for club legend Ian Wright to be permanently honoured outside the Emirates Stadium.
Wright is very much a Highbury Hero for his goalscoring exploits after joining from Crystal Palace, just like Eberechi Eze. He still works closely with the club and has featured on many promotional videos, the latest being an emotional tear-jerker with fellow south Londoner Eze.
The emotions have only reignited the supporters’ admiration for their one-time leading goalscorer and the reaction has been launching a petition in his honour.
Since the Emirates opened in 2006, several iconic figures from Arsenal’s history have been commemorated in statue form. Herbert Chapman and Arsène Wenger, two of the club’s most influential managers, stand alongside legendary director Ken Friar. The only players recognised to date are Thierry Henry, Tony Adams and Dennis Bergkamp.
Supporters now believe it is Wright’s turn
The petition outlines Wright’s impact in detail: “Over a seven year span Ian Wright scored 185 goals from 288 appearances for The Arsenal and currently ranks second in goal scoring in the history of the club.
“He has been active in the media as a pundit and analyst since retiring. He is a prominent champion for Arsenal FC and is a strong advocate for women’s football and in particular the Arsenal Women’s Team.
“In a survey of the Greatest Arsenal players in history carried out on Arsenal.com he ranked 4th, behind: 1. Thierry Henry, 2. Dennis Bergkamp & 3. Tony Adams.
“These three legendary Arsenal players are all honoured with statues at Emirates Stadium, in addition to Chapman, Friar and Wenger who had profound impacts on the club. It is now time for Ian Wright to be honoured with a statue at Emirates Stadium.

The move has already gained momentum, with many supporters expressing support on social media. Wright, who remains second only to Henry in Arsenal’s all-time goalscoring charts, is also a respected voice in the media and a visible advocate for both the men’s and women’s teams.
If successful, the petition would add Wright to the select group of Arsenal greats immortalised around the stadium, ensuring his legacy is celebrated for generations to come.

I supported the idea to immortalise Ian Wright. he has been supportive to arsenal curse both men and women teams. with these remembrance it will make to fight the arsenal case more.
I fully agree with this petition even as a Liverpool fan. Ian Wright has earned and deserves the honor of recognition with a statue among the Arsenal greats.
