Everton star James Garner has undergone surgery on a groin problem, the club have revealed.
It is hoped that Garner will return around the time of the start of the new Premier League season, however.
Everton played out a goalless draw with Bolton in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, with Hayden Hackney and Tyler Dibling also not involved.
Summer signing Hackney missed the end of last season at Middlesbrough with an injury and is continuing to build up his fitness.
Dibling, meanwhile, missed out with a “minor knock”.
