Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed sympathy for compatriot Erik ten Hag after his dismissal from Manchester United, backing the former Red Devils boss to secure another major job in the near future.

Ten Hag’s tenure at United came to an end on Monday, following a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season that saw them sit 14th. A 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday sealed his fate.

Slot, who is just five months into the job at Liverpool, led his side to a comprehensive victory at Old Trafford back in September to pile the pressure on Ten Hag.

“Obviously, your first thoughts are with the person,” Slot spoke at his pre-match press conference.

“In this job it can happen and I know how much work Erik puts into it. To get this news – it’s a pity for him.

“We know how well he did at Ajax and that he won two trophies there. I’m sure we’ll see him at a big club again.”

Slot is looking to continue his tremendous start at Liverpool by reaching the Carabao Cup fifth round as his Reds travel to Brighton tomorrow evening.
