Jonny Evans says he hopes Erik ten Hag stays at Manchester United after winning the FA Cup with the club.
Evans came off the bench to help United see out a 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City thanks to first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
The 36-year-old linked up with United initially to train with the team during pre-season before being offered a one-year deal and injury problems in the middle of defence have meant he has been regularly called upon under United boss ten Hag.
And Evans says he believes the Dutchman deserves to stay despite a disappointing season in the Premier League which saw the club finish eighth.
Asked whether their FA Cup win could be the start of something more positive for the club, Evans said: “I hope so, he’s been amazing for me this season by bringing me back in and showing a lot of belief in me and playing me.
“I’ve got really good things to say about him. I think over the last month or so he’s shown incredible tactical flexibility.
“To sit off and counter attack, I know it’s not the style he probably sees himself coaching but he’s been able to do it and he’s recognised the right time to do it.
“In the last month or so we’ve shown some good performances.
“On a personal level, he’s been amazing for me so I can only thank him for that. I have a good relationship with him so I hope he stays.”
Evans’ short-term deal expires this summer and on his future, the defender added: “I don’t know, we’ll see over the next couple of weeks and see what the club say.”
