Jorginho expected to sign new Arsenal deal

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is set to be offered a new deal by the club which the Italian is expected to sign.

The Italy midfielder has been a crucial player for Mikel Arteta’s side, as they search for their first Premier League title in 20 years.

Jorginho has played 35 times in all competitions for the Gunners this campaign, with Arteta entrusting the Italian in some of the biggest matches this season.

The 32-year-old arrived in north London in a £12m deal from Chelsea in January 2023, and his experience has been key to bringing extra stability to Arsenal’s young side.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Italian is expected to sign the new deal, with his current deal set to expire this summer.

Jorginho has featured ten times from the start in the Premier League this season, with a further 13 from the bench. Thomas Partey’s return to fitness has seen the midfielder’s minutes lessen, but this contract offer shows Jorginho’s importance to Arteta and Arsenal.

The Italian also completed his UEFA B coaching licence earlier in the year, as he gets contingency plans going for his post-playing career.

Arteta is a clear admirer of Jorginho, with the Spaniard singing his praises after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Liverpool in February:

“For all the kids at the club, if you want to look at somebody, just look at him.”
