Jurgen Klopp gives injury updates on Van Dijk and Gravenberch

Virgil Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch have not travelled with Liverpool for their Europa League tie in Toulouse on Thursday night.

Van Dijk was not risked due to an illness with 20-year-old Jarell Quansah a potential replacement for him at centre-back.

Gravenberch’s absence is due to a knee problem which adds to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield issues, with Curtis Jones already missing.

Jones was added to the injury list ahead of the weekend draw with Luton and, with Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic remaining long-term absentees.

Wataru Endo is certain to start as Liverpool look to book qualification to the knock-out stages with two matches to spare and Harvey Elliott, who came off the bench to good effect at Kenilworth Road, is set to also line up alongside him.

Klopp said regarding the injuries to his squad: “Virgil is a little bit ill but it won’t be a big thing.

“We didn’t want to bring him on the plane, I think that was obvious- maybe some of the other players have it [illness] as well. I have it a little bit but for me, it’s not a problem.

“But we left him [Van Dijk] at home but there should not be a problem for the weekend.

“Ryan got a little niggle in the knee but nothing major; he was running today in training but there was no chance for this game and we hope there is a chance for him against Brentford- if not he will definitely be back after the international break.”
