Kane acknowledges interest from ‘a few’ clubs before joining Bayern

Harry Kane admits talks were held with several other clubs before moving to Bayern Munich from Tottenham this summer.

The England captain had long attracted interest from rival clubs ahead of his move to the Bundesliga, with PSG, Manchester United and Manchester City previously among those who have tried to sign the forward.

Kane ended a long period of speculation by finally making the move to Bayern last month but ahead of the Champions League clash with one of those interested clubs, Man Utd, the 30-year-old insists Bayern was his number one option.

“To be honest, obviously over the summer I know there were some talks between a few clubs in the background,” Kane said.

“But Bayern was a team I was really interested by and really excited by, so there wasn’t too many other discussions. Once they came in, it was obviously between them and Tottenham to talk and then the deal got done.

“My focus is on here. Obviously Manchester (United) are a great club and a really big club as well but I decided to come here and I’m really happy I have.”

Bayern get their Champions League campaign underway at home to a struggling Manchester United side, who were beaten 3-1 by Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The German giants were knocked out in the quarter-finals by United’s rivals City in the competition last season, and Kane is aware of the pressure that comes with his signing.

“There’s a reason why Bayern Munich brought me to the club, they’re really eager, of course, to get back to winning the Champions League,” he said.

“They feel I can be a big help and obviously I feel I can help the team as well.

“That’s why I’m here. I want to be playing in these competitions, at the highest level, to try and help my team win the trophy.”
