Kane on chance to win first major trophy of his career: ‘I’d swap everything I’ve done’

Harry Kane says he would swap everything he has achieved in football to win a first major trophy of his career by beating Spain in the final of the European Championship on Sunday.

Kane has won a host of individual honours including golden boots and player of the season awards but a major team trophy has evaded him in his career to date.

And the 30-year-old says he wants to ensure that does not continue after Sunday when England take on Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

“It’s no secret I haven’t won a team trophy and every year that goes by, I’m more motivated and more determined to change that,” he said.

“Tomorrow night, I have the chance to win one of the biggest you could ever win and to make history with my nation.

“No question I’d swap everything I’ve done in my career to have a special night and a win tomorrow evening.”

England were beaten by Italy in the final of the last European Championship on penalties and Kane says the heartbreak of that night is motivation to ensure history does not repeat itself.

“Whenever you lose a final, it’s always tough to wipe it out of the memory,” he said.

“I’m always someone who tries to learn from disappointment and learn from time that are tough.

“I feel like it helps me improve as a player and a person. Of course, that moment [walking past the trophy] was difficult, but it was three years ago; a lot has happened since at international and club level.

“I’m excited to be back on that stage. It has been a hard journey to get here and now it’s just about going out there and trying to execute the gameplan we want.

“We’ve done fantastically in a lot of tournaments, but now it’s time to get over the line and we have that opportunity tomorrow.”
