Harry Kane’s second-half brace fired England into the World Cup round of 16 with a nervy win over DR Congo.

England trailed for much of the game after Brian Cipenga’s early opener.

But Kane rose to the occasion as he has done so often for his country, heading in an equaliser from substitute Anthony Gordon’s cross with 15 minutes remaining.

And the Three Lions skipper fired into the roof of the net from just inside the box 11 minutes later to complete the comeback for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

England will now take on Mexico at their home stadium, the Azteca, in the round of 16.
