Klopp pays tribute to Bill Kenwright and Sir Bobby Charlton ahead of Toulouse clash

Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to both Bill Kenwright and Sir Bobby Charlton ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League match against Toulouse at Anfield.

The Liverpool boss sent condolences to the friends and family of the Everton owner Kenwright, who died at the age of 78.

Klopp spoke of his knowledge of Sir Bobby Charlton before arriving in England, and of Bill Kenwright’s influence on the city of Liverpool.

“I can’t add anything, never met them but 8 years in England, I knew Sir Bobby before I arrived, one of the biggest football personalities in football. I hope his family are doing OK.

“With Mr Kenwright obviously a massive heart for the city and Everton but the message around the Hillsborough speech, he said they chose the wrong city, and the wrong mums, a really strong message. All of rivalry left or right of games we have no issues, my condolences to his family.”

Liverpool have 6 points from their opening two games in the Europa League and will be seeking another victory on Thursday.

Klopp also confirmed that Andy Robertson was out of surgery, after picking up an injury during the international break. Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are also out for Liverpool, whilst Cody Gakpo is back in training.

“Robbo had surgery and all went well, as good as it could be. Rehab starts as soon as he wakes up, I think it happened this morning.”

“Cody is in full training now since Sunday. He is available for the squad. Thiago and Bajcetic are both out.”
