Klopp: Slot would be joining the best club in the world

Jurgen Klopp has spoken about the possibility of Arne Slot becoming the next Liverpool manager and says he is fond of the Dutchman’s playing style.

On Wednesday, Slot started negotiations with Liverpool after it was reported on Tuesday that the 45-year-old had emerged as the frontrunner to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Discussions have seemingly moved quite quickly, as Slot yesterday confirmed Liverpool’s interest in him and said it would be difficult to turn down that sort of job.

While Klopp conceded that he is unaware if Slot will be the man to replace him at the end of the season, he was full of praise for the Dutchman and highlighted the job he has done at Feyenoord.

He said: “So I didn’t read anything but Tony (Barrett, Liverpool’s press officer) told me that Arne said something. I don’t know anything about it. Not involved in the process (of appointing his successor) just to clarify that.

“I like a lot about it, if he is the one, he must want to take the job.

“I like the way his team play football. All the things I hear about him as a guy, a good guy. Some people I know, know him, but I don’t know him yet. Some people tell me that he is a really good guy. I like that a lot.

“Good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club if he is the solution or the man. I’m more than happy. It’s not up to me to judge these things but it all sounds really good to me.”

Klopp also had a personal message for Slot about the job he could potentially inherit at Anfield.

“Best job in the world, best club in the world, best job in the world,” he said. “Obviously now I even help by not finishing on a high, it looks like.

“There is space for improvement. Great job, great team, fantastic people. He would take a really, really interesting job.”
